This was traditional comfort food for Russian Jews, brought to America by immigrants.

1/4 Lbs Bow Tie pasta
1 Cup Kasha (Buckwheat)
1 3/4 Cups Water
1 Large onion, Diced
3 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Cook pasta according package instructions. Meanwhile boil water. In the pot toast kasha until it hot, add boiling water and salt to taste. Reduce flame to low and cover. Cook until water evaporates.
Sautee onion in olive oil until golden. Mix together pasta, kasha and onion.
Serving suggestions:

Serve with your favorite meat dish e.g. Zharkoe, or alone with cup of milk or compote.
